MINIS PROGRAM- Our Minis program is for dancers that are 6 to 8 years old. This is a 3 year program that uses dance to build social skills, confidence, coordination, and exercise. Dancers in this program get to work on the fundamentals of dance while having fun and meeting new friends. This program also lays the foundation of dance to better prep you for our Junior Program. These classes are for the dancer that is new to dancing, simply loves moving or in the exploration stage and wants to get the basics to progress in the program.

JUNIOR PROGRAM - Our Junior Program is a 4 year program for dancers 9 to 12 that is divided into Beginner, Beginner/Intermediate. While in this program a dancer may spend 2 to 3 years if not more in one given level. So it’s possible for a dancer to be a beginner from 9 to 11. That is simply because everyone is taking class for a different reason and most students are here to simply have fun and dance with there peers. When that happens they are simply having fun and not pushing themselves to necessarily advance quickly. Also their desires and focus can change as dancers mature and develop so often times after they spent a year simply having fun they realize, "I love this" and want to be pushed but the year they spent having fun they may have not improved or grown enough to progress. It is unrealistic to think your child will automatically progress to the next level or that they spend only 1 year in a level. This program is more of outlet for dancers to learn cool moves in a fun and nurturing environment while building social skills, leadership skills, discipline, coordination, dancing with there peers, and more.

SENIOR PROGRAM - Our Senior Program is a 4 year program for dancers 13 to 18 that is divided into Beginner, Beginner/Intermediate. While in this program a dancer may spend 2 to 3 years if not more in one given level. So it’s possible for a dancer to be a beginner from 13 to 15. That is simply because everyone is taking class for a different reason and most students are here to simply have fun and dance with there peers. THINGS TO CONSIDER FOR PARENTS EAGERLY WANTING YOUR CHILD TO MOVE UP:

  • Trust that each teacher and the director are highly trained professionals with over 25 years experience/training. They know what they are doing and what is best for each child.

  • If you have any questions it’s best to talk to the front desk or director to get accurate information and not another parent.

  • YOU CANNOT compare your child to any other dancer or expect the same placement as your childs friend. Each child has a different scenario and many variables come into play. Ex. My daughters friend just moved up. It’s possible that this child has been with SLIDE for over 5 years and with the structure changing due to growth she luckily moved up. Or that child just barely met the age cut off. It could be so many things. When we first started we literally had people purposefully not put their childs correct age because they so badly wanted their child to participate.

  • If you want your child to continue to grow then pay attention to these things... are they practicing at home, are they always in dress code, do they stretch at home. If the answer is no then encourage them and remind them that if they want to quickly progress then they need to do the work outside of class as well.

  • If you have questions or concerns with your class placement then ask what they can do to improve quickly or schedule a placement private.

  • Don’t be so quick to have your child move up,  there are pros and cons to both. Sometimes kids have more fun and build more confidence in our beginner/beginner intermediate classes. When they move up too quickly they aren’t ready and often lose confidence and the desire to dance all around. The dynamics are very different in each level so dancing at a level that your child isn't ready for can do more damage.
